12 Retail Units Electricity Bill Reduced By 20%
A client with a significant property portfolio approached us to explore solar options for a 12-shop retail block. He had a monthly Eskom availability fee of R43,000. As part of the solution, we replaced all the prepaid meters in the complex, providing the tenants with a 20% savings on their per-unit purchases. We then installed a 100 kW solar system along with a 180 kW generator. Once the installation was complete, the complex was disconnected from the Eskom grid. The owner could then supply electricity to the tenants at NERSA tariffs, yielding a 35% annual return on his investment. The generator runs for between 30 minutes and 8 hours per month, and its maintenance cost is a fraction of the previous availability fee.
A Residential Owner Who's 90% Grid Independent
Gerrit from Paarl approached us with the need to reduce his municipal bill by looking at alternative energy sources. While conducting a site inspection, we discovered an old geyser that used more than 4 kW to heat his water. In addition, he had some hidden underfloor heating elements that ran constantly. We assisted him by providing controls for the underfloor heating. Additionally, we removed the old 4 kW geyser element and replaced it with a 2 kW element and a GeyserWise controller. This allowed him to heat his water much more efficiently, utilizing the geyser as an additional "battery" by storing approximately 5 kWh of electricity from the sun in the form of heated water. The client also installed an 8 kW inverter with 5 kW of solar panels and a 10 kWh battery. This system, combined with smart energy management, allowed him to be 90% grid-independent during 2025.
Multi-tenant Facility Generates A 25% Annual Return
A client in Paarl’s industrial area, with tenants ranging from a large engineering workshop to a logistics park, approached us to increase the returns he was getting from his property. We analyzed the electricity consumption of the individual tenants and designed a system featuring a 100 kW inverter, 96 kWh of battery storage, and 110 kW of solar generating power. Upon installation, the inverter revealed serious phase imbalances on the property, which we subsequently resolved. By installing an integrated prepaid meter solution for all the tenants, we provided the owner with a turnkey solution that will yield a 25% annual return on his investment.
